The controller under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Maja Schulze (MAEZOS)c/o Autorenglück #58142

We are not required to appoint a data protection officer.
2. Overview
You can visit this website without telling us who you are. We collect personal data only where this policy describes it: technical data when you visit, and the data you give us when you write to us or subscribe to the newsletter. We do not use advertising, we do not share your data with advertising or analytics companies, and we do not sell your data. Visitor statistics come only from our host Wix and from simple anonymous counters of our own, and both only run if you allow them in the cookie notice (section 6).
Apart from the technical data that every visit needs (section 4), you are not obliged by law or by contract to give us any personal data. If you choose not to, you can still use the whole website. We can only answer your message if you give us a way to reply, and we can only send you the newsletter if you give us your email address. We do not use automated decision-making, including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR).
3. Hosting
This website is hosted by Wix.com Ltd., 5 Yunitsman St., Tel Aviv, Israel, together with its group companies. Wix processes data on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). According to Wix, data can be stored in data centers in the European Union (Ireland), Israel, the United States, South Korea and Taiwan. For Israel and South Korea, the European Commission has found an adequate level of data protection; for the other countries, Wix uses the EU standard contractual clauses. Images and other files of this website are delivered from Wix servers (static.wixstatic.com), and Wix adds its own technical scripts to every page (from manage.wix.com, static.parastorage.com and www.wixapis.com). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).
4. Server log files
When you open this website, your browser automatically sends information that our host stores in log files: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, browser type and version, and operating system. We need this data to deliver the website and to keep it secure, for example against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Wix keeps the log files only as long as they are needed for these purposes, that is to deliver the pages and to detect and fend off attacks, and then deletes or anonymises them. Data needed to investigate a specific security incident is kept until the incident has been cleared up.
5. Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small text files that your browser stores. Local storage and session storage are similar memory areas in your browser. This website uses them only for the purposes listed below. Nothing in them is used for advertising, and none of it is shared with other companies.
Set by our host Wix. Some entries are needed to run the website and are always set. The others are only set if you allow visitor statistics in the cookie notice (section 6).
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | When |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| client-session-bind, server-session-bind | Cookie | Protect the website's interfaces against misuse | Session | Always |
| ssr-caching | Cookie | Speeds up the delivery of pages | Less than a minute | Always |
| wixSiteScript:… | Local storage | Stores the version of Wix's technical page script | Until you delete it | Always |
| svSession, XSRF-TOKEN | Cookie | Security and core functions, only if a Wix function such as a form needs them | Up to 12 months | Only when needed |
| consent-policy | Cookie | Stores your choice in the cookie notice | 12 months | After you choose |
| bSession | Cookie | Groups the pages of one visit for the visitor statistics and measures how well the platform works (load times, errors) | 30 minutes | Only with your consent |
| wixViewerSessionId | Session storage | Groups the pages you view during one visit for the visitor statistics | Until you close the tab | Only with your consent |
The legal basis for the entries that are always set and for storing your choice is § 25 (2) no. 2 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG), because they are strictly necessary to provide the website and the functions you use, and Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The entries for visitor statistics are only set with your consent (§ 25 (1) TDDDG, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR; section 6). You can delete all of them at any time in your browser settings.
6. Website statistics
By Wix, only with your consent. On your first visit, a notice asks whether our host Wix may record visitor statistics. If you allow it, Wix records how this website is used, so that we can see statistics in our Wix account: which pages are opened and how often, how long a visit lasts, from which kind of device and browser, from which website visitors arrive, and the country and approximate region derived from your IP address. Wix also records loading times and technical errors. For this, Wix's page script stores the entries bSession and wixViewerSessionId listed in section 5 and sends this information to Wix servers (frog.wix.com and www.wixapis.com). We do not use this data to identify you, and we do not combine it with other data. Wix is our processor under the data processing agreement mentioned in section 3. The legal basis is your consent (§ 25 (1) TDDDG, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). If you do not allow it, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, these statistics stay switched off and the two entries are not set.
Our own anonymous counters, also only with your consent. If you allow statistics in the cookie notice, our pages also count a few events themselves, so that we can see which pages and links are used: opening a page; a click on a link or button, together with the part of the page where it was (for example the header, the footer or the book list), for example to a shop or platform such as Amazon, Goodreads, Spotify or Instagram; how far down a long page you scrolled (in steps of a quarter) and reaching its end; which illustration you opened in the large view (by file name); opening a question in the FAQ, copying its link, using the FAQ search (only whether it found something, never what you typed) and following a link to the content warnings or reaching them on the FAQ page; clicking into the newsletter field and a newsletter sign-up (only the fact that it happened, never the address); the topic you choose in the contact form (only the topic, never your name, address or message); pressing play on one of our playlists (only which one); that you allowed statistics in the cookie notice; a few other playful interactions with the pages; a page that could not be found (only the address you asked for, never anything after a question mark); how fast a page loaded (only fast, medium or slow); and technical errors (only the name of the file in which a script failed, or a short technical error message without personal data). Each event is stored as one row in the content database (CMS) of our Wix account with these details only: kind of event, name (for example the page, the link target or where on the page a click happened), page, the kind of website you came from (for example “instagram”, “google” or “direct”, never the full address), the device class (mobile, tablet or desktop, worked out from the screen size and the kind of pointer your browser reports) and the time. If you arrive through a link that carries a marker such as ?ref=instagram, that marker is stored instead. We do not store IP addresses, names or free text, we set no cookies and use no local or session storage for this, and we do not give you a visitor ID, so the rows cannot be linked to you or to each other. Before you allow statistics, nothing is counted and nothing is read from your browser for this. The counters also stay off if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Wix, which stores the rows for us, is our processor (section 3). We sum up the rows from time to time and delete the single rows after at most 12 months. The legal basis is your consent (§ 25 (1) TDDDG, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time through “Cookie settings”.
7. Fonts
The fonts on this website are delivered from this website itself, through our host Wix. No connection to Google or other font providers is made when you visit.
8. Contact form
When you send us a message through the contact form, we process your name, your email address and your message in order to answer you. The data is stored in our hosting provider's system (Wix). Wix forwards each message by email to us at maezos@outlook.com and, as a copy, to Amir Zadah, who built and looks after this website (see the legal notice). He receives the copy only to check that the form works and for technical support and feedback. He does not answer messages, and he uses your data only for this purpose and does not pass it on. Wix also saves your name and email address as an entry in the contact list of our Wix account and checks each message automatically for spam; for this, Wix also processes your IP address. Our mailbox is provided by Microsoft (Outlook). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in answering your request, or Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if your message relates to a contract. We delete your data when your request has been fully dealt with, unless legal retention periods apply.
9. Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter through the form in the footer, we use your email address to send you news about books and releases. By clicking “Subscribe” you agree to this; the text next to the form says so. We use the double opt-in method: you only receive the newsletter after you confirm your subscription through a link in a confirmation email. We store the time of subscription and confirmation to be able to prove your consent. Your entry is sent from your browser directly to our Wix account (www.wixapis.com); no other company receives it. When we send the newsletter, Wix records whether and when it was opened and which links in it were clicked, so that we can see which news interests our readers. For this, each newsletter contains a small invisible image and links that run through Wix. This is part of your consent; the text next to the form says so too. The legal basis is your consent (§ 25 (1) TDDDG, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR).
We send the newsletter with the email marketing service of Wix, the provider that hosts this website (section 3, same data processing agreement). Your email address, the confirmation data and your subscription status are stored in our Wix account. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing through the link in every newsletter; many email programs also let you block images. You will then no longer receive the newsletter, and Wix marks your address as unsubscribed so that this is respected. We keep the record of your consent only as long as we may need to prove it, and delete your address completely if you ask us to.
10. Spotify playlists
The page about The Blairville Legacies offers playlists from Spotify (Spotify AB, Regeringsgatan 19, 111 53 Stockholm, Sweden). A playlist only loads after you click on it. Only then is a connection to Spotify made, and Spotify receives your IP address and information about your device. If you are logged in to Spotify, Spotify can link the visit to your account. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you give by clicking. More information: Spotify privacy policy.
11. Links to other platforms
This website contains plain links to Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Goodreads, Amazon, Spotify and the unofficial fan wiki on Fandom. These are not plugins: no data is sent to these platforms when you load our pages. Only when you click a link are you taken to the platform, and its own privacy policy applies.
12. Your rights
You have the right to:
- get information about the personal data we store about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- have incorrect data corrected (Art. 16 GDPR),
- have your data deleted (Art. 17 GDPR),
- have the processing restricted (Art. 18 GDPR),
- receive your data in a common format (Art. 20 GDPR),
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR); for visitor statistics through “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page, for the newsletter through the link in every newsletter.
Right to object. Where we process your data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR), you can object at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). This applies in particular to the server log files (section 4) and to answering your messages (section 8).
To use these rights, write to us through the contact form or by email. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one responsible for your place of residence or for us: the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Sachsen-Anhalt, Otto-von-Guericke-Straße 34a, 39104 Magdeburg, Germany.
13. Security
This website uses TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by "https://" and the lock icon in your browser's address bar.
14. Changes
We update this privacy policy when the website or the law changes. The current version is always available on this page.
